Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt. Mix well.
- Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the olive oil and warm water.
- Mix the ingredients together until a soft dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Punch down the risen dough to release the air and transfer it to a floured surface.
- Divide the dough into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into an oval or elongated shape, about ½ inch (1.25 cm) thick.
- Place the shaped dough on the prepared baking sheet and cover them with a damp cloth. Let them rest for 15-20 minutes.
- Brush the tops of the dough with the beaten egg and sprinkle sesame seeds or nigella seeds if desired.
- Bake the Turkish bread in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Once baked, remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack.
- Serve the Turkish bread warm or at room temperature with your favorite dips, spreads, or as a sandwich bread.
